Arts Centre

Location: Temporary Location : Marlin hall (during the RAH Redevelopment project)

The Arts Centre has been in the Ras Al Hamra Club for nearly 40 years and for RAH club members is a supportive, social and safe environment to develop new skills and have fun perfecting arts and crafts!

The main facilities include a Pottery (for handbuilding/Wheel & glazing), Classrooms for all kinds of arts and crafts, lectures, Languages and a Stained Glass room.

Activities have included Adults Painting, Kids Papercraft, Kids painting and creative activities , Mosaic making. Mandala drawing, Quilling & Origami, Crochet, Meditation, Cooking Demonstrations, Acrylic painting techniques, Acrylic Fluid Art, Ribbon Embroidery, Stained glass, Sewing, Quilting, Handbuilding pottery, wheel pottery, pastel drawing, languages for adults and kids (eg French, English, Arabic), first aid courses and Jewellery making. The arts centre also looks after the music section if you wish to help revitalise this area (we have african drums and pianos!) then please contact the chairperson.

Activities can be courses eg 4/6/8 or 12 weeks in duration, Workshops 1-2 individual sessions, taster sessions 1-2 classes. Where the course is progressive you will need to join the whole course and not midway through. You will also need permission from the specific instructor if you wish to use the facilities outside course times so that the instructor is confident you know how to use the equipment safely and can keep the area clean and tidy. The schedule is shown on a white board and on the notice boards at the arts centre.

All courses and activities are posted on the RAH Club WhatsApp and the club social media sites. If you find a course you wish to join then you register by sending a WhatsApp to the instructor giving your name (childs name if applicable) and membership number. Payments for the classes are made at the start of the course by chit and with a bank card for non PDO staff members.

There is also a specific Arts Centre Community WhatsApp where you can see what is coming up first and share ideas, information and see the outcome of some of the amazing art created and kids having fun! If you wish to be added to this WhatApp group then Whatsapp Angela on 95942201 with your name and membership number to ask to be added to the group.

Please Note: All activities are run by RAH Club member volunteers (ie unpaid they do it for fun!) so the types of courses being taught, course timings and durations are based on their availability (we are always looking for new volunteers!). So if the craft is not available it is because we do not currently have someone volunteering to teach it.

If you have a passion for a craft / language or a topic you wish to share then you can volunteer to run a course, workshop or give a lecture - all welcome (you don't need to necessarily be an expert) we can help you structure and define your course or workshop and share your skills! Most first time instructors find it very rewarding to teach in a relaxed supportive environment with appreciative students!

The centre is open all year round but may be a little more quiet during holiday times, but if you are around and want to run an activity especially to keep the kids occupied then let us know!
